Dr. Kingstedt presented the work of Nathan and former Caltech mentee, Moriah Bischann at the SEM annual conference. Nathan and Moriah investigated the role of texture on the dynamic response of thermo-mechanically processed light-weight Magnesium alloy AZ31B using strain rate jump experiments on the split-Hopkinson pressure bar.

Undergraduate researchers Raphael Chanut and Eric Bellan have been selected to be a participant in the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP). Ronaldo Herrera, an undergraduate in Mechanical Engineering joins the research group. Ronaldo’s efforts will focus on bringing new image processing techniques to the lab to help with the interpretation of x-ray tomography data.

Nathan Briggs becomes the first graduate student to join the group. Nathan is a U of U alumni, having earned B.S. degrees in Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering in Spring 2016.
